Failover Clusters - Configuring Failover Clusters

Cluster Name

The agent configuration parameter clusterName allows you to set a cluster name. Agent v6.5 includes this configuration parameter. This configuration parameter can also been used as an environment variable (DD_CLUSTER_NAME). Make sure you have the correct cluster names for your cluster. Once you have given the cluster name, agents will fail over to the next one if it fails.

Configuring a failover cluster

Configuring a failover cluster requires you to first understand the cluster's components and how they relate to each other. The cluster tree objects allow you to navigate through every component of the cluster. Clicking an item will open its context menu. The context menu will then display all of the operations.

To begin, create a new Failover Server Cluster Manager. After you have created a cluster you will need to assign each server an role. After selecting a role to be assigned to a member of your cluster, you can begin creating virtual machines. To add a disk to the cluster, type Get-ClusterAvailableDisk.

Failover Cluster Management allows you create clusters from all your servers. Select the cluster nodes that you wish to connect to. You can also choose to use the "validated nodes" option to skip this step. Next, you will need to set up the IP addresses and name of the cluster. Finally, you'll need to validate the cluster configuration before enabling failover clusters on your machines.

When the cluster validation has been completed, click Finish. You will see a confirmation screen that lists the nodes chosen and the test results. You can also see a full report of the results. Once you have set up your cluster, you need to determine the access point from which you will manage it. This access point must be in the same IP range as your cluster nodes.

Failover cluster manager will display a summary about your cluster creation. You can also view more information about failover cluster configurations and disk selection. Windows Server 2019 is recommended if you are using Windows Server 2019 (or another version) of the operating system. You should also ensure you update Windows Server 2019 clusters.

Once you've installed failover cluster software, and configured the management Interface, you can use failover cluster management to monitor it's health and adjust failback settings. The failback feature can be used to simulate a hardware failure, and ensure that services do not stop. Once one node fails, the remaining nodes will take over the workload. This allows you to make sure that your file server is accessible to all users.

Failover Cluster Manager can be launched from the Server Manager dashboard or from the Tools menu. Failover cluster validation wizard will validate the servers within the cluster. Then, launch Failover Manager. Next, create Active Directory, DNS entries, and shared storage for the virtual cluster name.

When you first install Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, you will need to update the software that controls it. To do so, download the vzup2date utility. You will need a shared SCSI storage unit to make a failover cluster of Parallels servers. Ensure the storage device has a /vz partition formatted as ext3. All servers in the failover cluster should be running the latest Parallels Virtuozzo containers software.
